Overwhelmed HK Residents Shocked as Major Fire Destroys Apartment Complexes

University student an eyewitness was among the many people gathered at the scene of a fatal fire that swept through much of the eight-block housing complex in the city's Tai Po district.
No fewer than 36 residents have lost their lives in the recent devastating blaze to date, with many still not located, leading to expectations that this number will probably grow.
"It's a tragedy," the student commented about the incident, adding that he had seen a deceased person being removed from the area.
More than a thousand further residents were compelled to evacuate the estate as the blaze advanced, with several going to established shelters that have been organized to shelter them.
The inferno is progressively being contained, but emergency responders indicate they do not know when it will be fully put out.
